Founded by a Driver for Drivers … 60 Years of J.B. Hunt

Celebrating our anniversary and the drivers who keep us moving.

“We are dedicated to making our company an industry leader in all aspects. The vast potential of our still young company has only begun to be tapped.” – J.B. Hunt

As J.B. Hunt celebrates its 60th anniversary, we are thankful for our company drivers and for all employees who have helped us arrive at this moment. As our founder, Johnnie Bryan Hunt, once said, “Today is going to be better than yesterday.”

We want to thank our J.B. Hunt family for making each day better than the last, and we look forward to the days ahead. Over the last 60 years, we have seen tremendous growth as a company – we can’t wait to see what’s next.

The Founding of J.B. Hunt

In 1961, Mr. Hunt followed a dream of becoming a giant in the transportation industry. As an Army veteran and truck driver himself, he knew that the hard work and dedication of truck drivers would bring his dream to life. After starting the company hauling rice hulls in 1961, J.B. Hunt purchased five trucks and seven trailers, paving the way for the company to begin transportation services in 1969. In 1983 he took the company public, and the rest is history.

J.B. Hunt founded its Intermodal division in 1990 and its Dedicated Contract Services® division in 1993. In just 30 years, we have grown to become the largest intermodal and dedicated provider in the country. With this growth, we have kept to our roots. In order to give company drivers the kind of jobs that Mr. Hunt dreamed of, we average 17 drivers to one manager across more than 700 account and office locations throughout the country. We are a family at J.B. Hunt, and we work to honor the small trucking company that started it all.

Transportation Industry Leader

J.B. Hunt has grown exponentially over the last 60 years, and a driving force behind this growth has always been to offer drivers a better job and a better life. From owning five trucks to employing nearly 21,000 drivers, J.B. Hunt has grown to a nationally recognized Fortune 500 company.

The commitment Mr. Hunt had for drivers and veterans like himself remains a cornerstone of the company today. J.B. Hunt hired 10,000 veterans in just a five-year period and remains dedicated to offering the most competitive driving jobs in the industry. From getting more than 90% of our nearly 21,000 company driver fleet back home daily or weekly, to providing drivers access to better benefits and management, we at J.B. Hunt work hard to give our company drivers the best there is.

Recently, we celebrated 30 years of J.B. Hunt Intermodal, our first five-million-mile safe driver and all of the amazing drivers who kept our country moving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

J.B. Hunt Drivers

Our company drivers are the foundation of our company. Over the last 60 years, they have driven us forward to success and new achievements. Without our incredible drivers, Mr. Hunt’s dream of a driver-centered company would never have taken off. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we celebrate the drivers who got us here and the driver who founded the company in 1961.
