From the Frontlines – A Helping Hand

J.B. Hunt driver Jose doesn’t hesitate for a hospital in need.

Truck drivers have been seen and appreciated in the public eye more than ever this year, and J.B. Hunt drivers like Jose, a Delivery Installation Specialist, remind us all why.

In the early stages of the pandemic, Jose was one of two drivers at J.B. Hunt who answered a last-minute call to pick up a personal protective equipment (PPE) shipment at Chicago’s O’Hare airport and make sure it was delivered to the medical professionals who were in need.

For Jose, it took no time at all to know he had to take action.

“I got the call around 10 o’clock [p.m.] that the PPE was at O’Hare,” said Jose. “They told me what time to be there, I was there.”

Jose was able to pick up the delivery in Chicago and make sure it began the journey to a hospital in need in Tennessee.

“Without a doubt, in the beginning, a lot of people needed [PPE],” said Jose. “If I had to do it again, I would do it again without a second thought.”

Jose stands next to his J.B. Hunt Final Mile delivery truck and smiles at the camera.

Jose says the public has been incredibly supportive of him and his fellow drivers throughout the year.

“Truck drivers are doing a lot right now for this country,” said Jose. “To be honest, we’ve had people beep their cars at us and yell ‘thank you’ through this whole thing.”

To Jose, being a driver is more than a job:

“We’re not out here just for our family or a job, we’re out here for the public, too,” said Jose.

Jose’s passion for driving led him to pursue his CDL-A license this year. With the encouragement of his J.B. Hunt manager, Jose began taking classes and hopes to graduate CDL school later this year. Jose is excited to gain experience and hopes to begin a career as a Class A driver at J.B. Hunt.

“I’m really happy that it worked out for me to do this,” said Jose. “It’s a really great opportunity.”
