Our drivers know that, at J.B. Hunt, we work hard to not only show them appreciation for their hard work but to also honor our veterans and offer respect for their service to our country. We have been committed to both honoring our current veterans and service members, and showing remembrance for those who have fallen, by participating in Wreaths Across America (WAA).
Every year, J.B. Hunt drivers who are veterans or family of service members have been selected to join the Wreaths Across America convoy and deliver wreaths to national cemeteries across the United States. These drivers help WAA fulfill its mission of remembering our fallen veterans, honoring those who serve and teaching others the importance of their sacrifices.
What is Wreaths Across America?
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2007 with a goal of delivering holiday wreaths to graves in our national cemeteries to honor our fallen veterans. This year, J.B. Hunt will deliver approximately 287,000 wreaths directly to 12 national cemeteries, utilizing our tractors, trailers and equipment and covering 100% of the cost of delivery.
Every year, J.B. Hunt driver managers nominate our drivers for the honor of transporting these special deliveries across the country. Out of hundreds of nominations, 70 J.B. Hunt drivers were chosen from our intermodal, truckload and Dedicated Contract Services® divisions to deliver these wreaths, working together to hand off the loads in key exchange ceremonies throughout the United States until they reach their destination.
J.B. Hunt Honors Veterans
Taking the time and making the effort to honor our veterans was built into our company by Mr. Hunt, who was both a driver and a veteran himself. We work to create a company culture that shows our service members how much we value not only their service but their experience and expertise.
In addition to participating in Wreaths Across America, we have worked to support our veterans and service members by providing:
- Deployment and re-entry guides
- Progressive policies toward military leave, including differential pay
- Company-wide observance of Memorial Day and Veterans Day
- Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG)
With nearly one in seven J.B. Hunt employees being veterans, our support for those who serve runs deep, and we strive to be one of the best trucking companies for veterans.
