Driver Orientation

Driver Orientation

Driver orientation is our first opportunity to welcome you to J.B. Hunt! We want to make the orientation process efficient and enjoyable to, ultimately, get you moving! Learn about our online and traditional programs below.

Our Direct to Work program allows you to complete orientation online at home, saving you time and travel! Schedule screenings to fit your availability at a location near you. Just like a traditional orientation, you'll be paid upon completion.
Our traditional orientation program is hosted at various J.B. Hunt terminals across the country. Traditional orientation is offered on Mondays or Wednesdays and typically lasts two and a half to three days.
  • Valid CDL-A or class B from your state of residence
  • Current DOT medical card (If you have a current DOT medical certification with at least 60 days remaining, do not have a current certification or your card has less than 60 days remaining, J.B. Hunt will send you to our clinic for a new one)
  • Social Security numbers and birth dates for dependents to be covered by benefit offerings (employee drivers) or voluntary health programs (owner operators and lease purchase drivers)
  • Voided check or bank-authorized document containing bank routing and account numbers (direct-deposit payroll)
  • Funds to cover personal expenses while attending orientation and until the first payroll (employee drivers) or settlement (owner operator and lease-purchase drivers) cycle
  • Proper footwear and attire for your road test
  • Two forms of identification as required by the I9 form
  • Copy of truck title application (front and back) with your name listed
  • Current 2290, paid
  • Bill of sale document showing date of sale and total purchase price
Employee drivers are compensated upon completion of orientation or on your first week's payroll. Pay varies by orientation type. To assist you in making it through to your first settlement, the orientation instructor can issue a one-time advance, for no charge, at the completion of orientation. You will complete all necessary paperwork and receive instruction on company policies, safety standards and general company information.

Lease purchase drivers are compensated on your first settlement. To assist you in making it through to your first settlement, the orientation instructor can issue a one-time advance, for no charge, at the completion of orientation. You will complete all leasing paperwork, pick out your tractor from our lease-purchase trucks, and receive instruction on policies, communication protocol and safety standards.

Owner operators are compensated on your first week’s settlement. To assist you in making it through to your first settlement, the orientation instructor can issue a one-time advance, for no charge, at the completion of orientation. You will complete all paperwork, truck inspection, and receive briefings on policies, communication protocol and safety standards.
