Since 2007, Wreaths Across America has been an inspiring force dedicated to remembering our fallen service members, honoring those who currently serve and teaching future generations about why this is important.
At J.B. Hunt, these are priorities we hold close as a company founded by a veteran, and we are proud to not only work with Wreaths Across America each year but to celebrate 10 years of supporting their mission: Remember, Honor, Teach.
What is Wreaths Across America?
Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization with a goal of delivering holiday wreaths to the graves of fallen service members to national cemeteries across the country. Since 2014, we have utilized our resources as a leader in transportation and logistics to help them reach their goal.
This year, J.B. Hunt is hauling 52 loads across the country and delivering 11 loads directly to national cemeteries. This amounts to more than 355,000 wreaths hauled throughout December as they make their way to cemeteries.
To make these deliveries, 72 J.B. Hunt drivers were selected to participate in the Wreaths Across America convoy throughout the month, which includes key exchange ceremonies as loads are passed on to the driver responsible for the next leg of the journey.
Will, a J.B. Hunt Intermodal driver, is a veteran of the Arkansas National Guard and the 142 Field Artillery Brigade. Will was able to participate in the Wreaths Across America convoy last year, participating in key exchanges along the way. He says that finding out he was selected to participate in the convoy last year is something he will always remember.
“When I was notified that I was going to be the driver for Wreaths Across America, I was ecstatic,” he said. “I actually remember that day. For whatever reason, I was just dog-tired that day. When I found out, I couldn’t keep my feet still. Just representing those that have given the ultimate sacrifice … it was a good feeling, and I hope to do it again in the future.”
This year, Will looks forward to placing wreaths at the Fayetteville National Cemetery and honoring the memory of fallen comrades.
