Transfer Military Experience to a Driving Career

Learn how your experience as a service member can translate to a driving career with J.B. Hunt.

We take great pride in our people at J.B. Hunt, and that is especially true of our drivers and our service members. Our founder, Johnnie Bryan Hunt, was both a driver and a veteran, and we are dedicated to honoring his vision for J.B. Hunt by putting our people first and providing career opportunities for veterans.

Whether you are transitioning to a civilian career or are a veteran looking for a new career, we believe the J.B. Hunt driver jobs are some of the best driving jobs for veterans!

How do Veterans Become Civilian Truck Drivers?

Military driving experience can be a huge benefit for transitioning service members. Because of this, we don’t just rely on our standard hiring requirements – we have specific policies for military experience to make sure that your skills are recognized.

If you have a Separation from Service within the last two years that contains the following Military Occupational Specialty codes, you may be eligible to count 100% of your time served as Class A driving experience:

  • 88M
  • 3531
  • 2TX1
  • Equipment Operator (EO)
  • Or a Military Skills Test Waiver

And this is just one of the ways we work to hire veteran drivers.

The J.B. Hunt Apprenticeship Program

Through the J.B. Hunt Apprenticeship Program, new CDL-A graduates can get training and experience with any of our business units. This J.B. Hunt program is federally recognized as a superior skill provider and is considered a registered apprenticeship by the Department of Labor (DOL). After successfully completing this program and driving with us for two years, drivers will receive a certificate from the DOL recognizing them as a driver with superior skills.
