As we look back at this past year, we are filled with pride at the accomplishments our drivers have made and the successes they have driven us to at J.B. Hunt.
From Million Mile drivers and new milestones to big company changes and national recognition, our drivers have been at the center of some of J.B. Hunt’s biggest achievements throughout the year.
Keep reading to reflect on 2022 with us and celebrate the drivers who keep us moving!
What Changes Did J.B. Hunt Make in 2022?
“They’re always stepping forward. They’re never going backward. They’re always trying to find a new way to innovate, whether it be DCS, intermodal, truck loading, the office personnel – whatever it takes to build on to make the company as great as it is.” – Billy, two million mile safe driver
We made some major changes this year and worked hard to provide our company drivers with the resources they need to continue to be industry-leading professionals!
New Equipment and Fleet Growth
We were excited this year to announce the addition of Peterbilt and Western Star tractors into our Dedicated Contract Services® (DCS) fleet! With new Peterbilt tractors already in use at accounts across the country, we are expecting to add even more as time goes on.
For our drivers at forestry accounts, we added Western Star tractors to handle the terrain and climate specializations those environments require. As we continue to grow across not only our dedicated accounts but our intermodal and Final Mile Services® (FMS) fleets, we are excited to expand our equipment to keep up with our customer and driver growth.
Better Truck Driver Benefits
In addition to announcing new equipment, we were excited to improve employee benefits for our drivers and reduce benefit waiting periods for health insurance from 90 days to 30 days by 2023! This means that after just 30 days of employment, you can be eligible for:
- Medical insurance
- Dental insurance
- Vision insurance
- HSA accounts
- FSA accounts
Along with reducing waiting periods, we added mental and emotional health resources, fertility treatment options and expanded driver disability. At J.B. Hunt, drivers are at our heart, and we work hard to offer benefits that make a difference.
Milestones and Celebrations
“I promise you this, we will never forget where we came from. The drivers of this company are who we are. On behalf of the entire non-driving workforce here at J.B. Hunt, including our executive management team and board of directors, we say ‘thank you’ for a job well done.” – John Roberts, CEO
2022 was a BIG year for celebrating J.B. Hunt drivers! From Million Mile moments to driving championships and national honors, our drivers made an impact across the country.
Million Mile Drivers
This April, we invited 69 drivers to our corporate headquarters this year, celebrating their incredible milestone of achieving 2 million safe miles or more. In total, we awarded more than $900,000 in safe driving bonuses for our Million Mile drivers and hosted a three-day event for our drivers and their family to celebrate their exceptional careers.
In October, we had the distinct honor of throwing a surprise celebration for Tony, the second J.B. Hunt driver to reach five million safe miles in his career. With drivers like Tony in our company, we are reminded why Mr. Hunt himself knew that with drivers at the heart of our company, there is nothing we can’t accomplish together.
Truck Driving Championship
Every year, J.B. Hunt drivers compete in the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship for a chance to compete nationally with some of the best drivers in the country. This year, we were proud to see four winners at the Arkansas championship, celebrating with them at an awards dinner hosted by the Arkansas Trucking Association.
Department of Labor Hall of Honor
In August, there was a special moment for drivers in our country that we were honored to have been a part of. José, a J.B. Hunt FMS driver, was one of four people invited to speak in Washington, D.C. on behalf of truck drivers throughout the nation.
Because of the heroic actions of all frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Labor inducted frontline workers into their Hall of Honor. As a representative of J.B. Hunt, truck drivers and the transportation industry at large, the pride and honor we have for José and his story are immense.
Our Drivers Know Recognition
At J.B. Hunt, we know that our drivers push us forward in almost every aspect of our company. Looking back on 2022, we see a theme of celebration, recognition and respect that we are proud to have as a cornerstone of J.B. Hunt.
Every year, we are astonished again at the accomplishments and successes our drivers bring, and we know that together, we can work to create the most efficient transportation network in North America
