How Often Do Truck Drivers Get Home?

90% of J.B. Hunt company drivers get home daily or weekly.

As a J.B. Hunt company driver, there are a variety of divisions, accounts and locations to choose from. With all that variety, one thing that remains the same is our commitment to bringing company drivers the choice of home time that works with their lifestyle.

How often do truck drivers get home?

Something we’ve always been proud of is the number of company drivers who have frequent home time. Currently, over 90% of all company drivers are home daily or weekly.

But what does that breakdown look like? Of all company drivers at J.B. Hunt, 54% are local drivers who get home every day and 37% are regional drivers with weekly home time.

J.B. Hunt’s Local Driving Jobs

Local driving jobs at J.B. Hunt are available in our Dedicated, Intermodal and Final Mile Services® (FMS) divisions.

FMS is a unique division at J.B. Hunt – with both CDL-A and non-CDL driving jobs. Delivery Installation Specialist positions are the only company driving jobs at J.B. Hunt that do not require a CDL-A.

FMS drivers are trained onsite to deliver and install appliances, furniture and fitness equipment to job sites, and typically operate during normal business hours Monday – Friday, which means getting back home almost every day.

For Final Mile Services® driver John, getting back home every day is an important value.

“J.B. Hunt is a good company to be with because most of their jobs are local, a good portion of them. That tells me that they share a lot of the same values that I do, about home time and things like that,” said John.

What Regional Driving Jobs Are Available for J.B. Hunt Drivers?

Regional driving jobs are available in our Dedicated and Intermodal divisions. These jobs are similar to local driving jobs, but move freight within a larger radius that typically encompasses the surrounding states.

Dedicated drivers work with a single account and onsite management, making deliveries on a consistent schedule to the same customers within familiar routes.

Intermodal jobs are 80% no-touch freight, which means less time loading and unloading. Intermodal drivers pick up J.B. Hunt containers from a railyard and deliver them to customer locations before heading back home.

To regional driver Joseph, knowing that home is around the corner makes all the difference.

“You get good home time. When you’re home, you get to enjoy things you like. It makes a difference. It’s a pleasure, getting up, going to work because you know you aren’t going to be out on the road, and you know you’re coming back home,” said Joseph.

At J.B. Hunt, we know that the most important part of our company is our people; treating them well and giving them what they need to perform their best has always been a priority. By providing a wide variety of company job choices with reliable home time, we hope to continue to make J.B. Hunt the best choice for you.
