Drivers and Community Thankful for Adopt-a-Class Program

J.B. Hunt driver William joined by classroom receiving Adopt-a-Class program donations.

For this year’s Adopt-a-Class program, J.B. Hunt asked company drivers to nominate their child or grandchild’s class to win a $1,000 donation of school supplies, the opportunity to tour a truck and enjoy a pizza party. Drivers submitted over 240 nominations – four times the amount of last year’s count. With much consideration, ten winners and five runner-ups were chosen.

Drivers participating in the nomination process, were asked to provide an explanation on why J.B. Hunt should donate school supplies to their class. The heartfelt nominations focused on how their children and teachers would benefit, as well as the community – making the selection process a difficult one.

Driver William’s nomination stated, “[Union] County has made cut after cut from the education programs, which I feel is not right for the children to suffer.”

Driver Andrew had written, “This may seem a selfish reason, but the fact that I love my step-daughter more than anything or anyone would be the foremost reason… I’m proud to be the guy she calls ‘dad’, and I desire to give her the very best.”

After receiving the exciting news about receiving a $1000 donation, the teachers provided a wish list for their classrooms. This year’s supplies included everything from dry erase markers, bean bag chairs, science kits and tactile learning tools to a “Toobaloo” phone to aid children with both auditory and oratory development, and a therapy kit designed for motor skill development.

The piles of school supplies were wrapped at the J.B. Hunt home office and then sent to the drivers’ accounts to be delivered to each winning classroom.

Adopt-a-Class winner and driver Robert, who delivered supplies to his child’s classroom, found pride in J.B. Hunt’s generosity. “It means a lot to me to work for a company that is so concerned in constantly reaching out to the communities that we serve, not just the families of the drivers, but we also reach out to the communities,” he said. “It was so exciting to have our school chosen. Being able to deliver the supplies was such an honor, just seeing the excitement on their faces as the truck pulled up melted my heart.”

Adopt-a-Class is not only an exciting time for the winning drivers and classrooms, it’s a special experience for driver managers, too. Tyler M., regional intermodal operations manager in Portland, enjoyed taking part in his driver’s delivery. “The whole experience was wonderful. Both the kids and Ms. Craddock were really excited about all the new stuff…and J.B. Hunt got an excellent opportunity to give back to a local community in an impactful way,” he said. “I would definitely encourage everyone to make sure their drivers are aware this program exists so they can apply for it in the future.”

Congratulations again to this year’s winning drivers and classrooms!

  1. It’s awesome to see JBH taking initiative to gift some classrooms! Our schools are where our future generations are molded, and it’s wonderful that JBH is stepping up to help in a field where numerous cuts have been and continue to be made. I’m sure those teachers and students really appreciate the gift (and the party, of course!)

  2. Congrats I see a familiar face. This is wonderful!

  3. when will you do this again? I would like to add my son school in the mix.

    1. Be on the lookout for messages regarding nominating your son’s classroom next summer.

  5. What a great program! I was not aware we did anything like this. Love that we give back to communities outside of NWA.
